Lawnchair Larry: The Original Balloon Boy
Larry Walters, nicknamed Lawnchair Larry, took flight on July 2, 1982 in a homemade
aircraft. Dubbed Inspiration I, the "flying
machine" consisted of an ordinary patio chair with 45
helium-filled weather balloons attached to it.
Walters didn't exactly become a household name and he
committed suicide in 1993 at the age of 44 by shooting himself
in the heart.
